Just as I’ve been doing even more reading trying to figure out how to control comment spam on my website and others, Google announces this. Essentially, Google, along with the help of many of the leading blogging companies, have come to an agreement that there will be a way to post links on a website (or in the comment section) without ‘giving credit’ to the link that is posted. This will discourage spammers from posting in comments and other public places since what they have been trying to do is increase the number of links to their site so that they will rank higher in Google’s search. (Hope I’m writing clearly enough and that makes sense.) Hopefully this announcement will mean that spammers will have less motivation to do so and the rise that everyone has seen in comment spam will come to a hault. On top of that though, it’s great to see so many companies coming together to try and put an end to comment spam instead of each company trying to develop their own unique way of dealing with it. Go team!
